How Deep Is Canoe Lake Algonquin?

Canoe Lake is a popular destination in Algonquin Provincial Park, located in Nipissing District, Ontario, Canada. It serves as a major access point for many canoeists entering the park and is home to many cottages. The lake is situated on the traditional territory of the Algonquin game fish, including walleye, northern pike, and muskellunge. The best fishing is found deep in the heart of Algonquin Parks.

After paddling through Canoe Lake, you will reach a fork and take the passage to the right (East) to approach your first portage. Paddle up Canoe Lake approximately 5 km to a portage of 295m into Joe Lake. Paddle up Joe Lake into Little Lake Opeongo to Canoe Lake (58 km). This route connects two of the most popular Little Trout Lakes on the west side of Algonquin Park.

At just two Algonquin Parks, the vast landscape of unspoiled lakes, rivers, and rugged hills is home to more than 2,000 kilometers of canoe routes. Canoe Lake is a beautiful and unique body of water in Algonquin Provincial Park, measuring 6 km long and 1.6 km wide. As you travel north, the lake shallows until it becomes shallow and muddyweedy at some points. At the very northern tip, the lake is less than 10 feet deep and even shallower when the dam at the south is let out in the fall.

Canoe Lake is a major entry point to the park for canoeists and is located in the Northwest area of the park. Drummer Lake, located about five kilometers from the Canoe Lake access point, is another popular spot for canoe campers.
