How Deep Do You Go When Scuba Diving?

The Deep Diver Specialty course teaches the necessary skills to dive to 40 meters (130 feet). It is generally recommended that recreational scuba divers limit their dives to a maximum depth of 30 meters (98 feet) and a dive time of no more than 60 minutes. Certified PADI Scuba Divers can go up to 40 feet (12 meters) deep, while certified PADI Open Water divers can go up to 50 meters (164 feet). The deepest a typical recreational scuba diver can go is 130 feet.

Beginner scuba divers can safely dive down to depths of 18 meters (60 feet) or more, which is one of the most common depths for many dive sites. According to the PADI, the diving limit for recreational diving is 130 feet (40 meters), but scuba novices are advised to stay above 60 feet (18m). Beyond 130 feet, decompression stops may be needed.

The deepest point is at 36,201ft (11,034m) called Challenger Deep, found in the Pacific Ocean at the Mariana Trench. No scuba diver has ever been close to dive depths like this as physics. Scuba diving usually occurs in depths between 10 and 40 meters (33-130 ft). The maximum depth for recreational divers is generally considered to be 40 meters (130 feet), although technical divers may dive deeper. In the underwater world of scuba diving, descending to depths up to 40 meters (130 feet) is considered recreational scuba.
