Viking Ocean Cruises operates a fleet of ocean cruise ships, ranging from smaller Viking Sky, Viking Sun, and Viking Sea to the larger Viking Star. Each sister ship is engineered at a scale that allows direct access into most ports. As of 2023, Viking Ocean Cruises has 9 ships in service, with one new ship planned soon: Viking Vela in Viking Sea.
The fleet features small, all-veranda, modern ocean ships, each with a capacity of just 930 guests each. Even the smallest cabins on Viking’s ocean ships are large by cruise ship standards at 270 square feet, while the largest suites measure nearly 1,500 square feet. The Viking Orion, launched in 2018, became the fifth ship in the fleet, offering private verandas in every stateroom.
All Viking Ocean ships are the same size, but the Viking Expedition ships are smaller at 30,150 GRT and carry only 378 passengers. Most Viking Longships are 443 feet long, the perfect length to fit into the locks on many of Europe’s rivers. Viking also built slightly smaller Viking Longships, which are 443 feet long, the perfect length to fit into the locks on many of Europe’s rivers.
With 30 unique cruise itineraries around the world, each of Viking’s 930 passengers will experience understated elegance, modern Scandinavian design, and verandas. The Viking Ocean fleet includes Viking Vela (December 2024), Ocean Newbuild XII (July 2025), XIII (May 2026), XIV (May 2027), XV (May 2028), XVI (November 2028), and XVII (November 2028).
