How Are Hatteras Yachts Built?

Hatteras Yachts, founded in 1959 by Willis Slane, is a leading manufacturer of luxury composite yachts. The company began with the goal of building a fishing boat robust enough to navigate the treacherous waters off Cape Hatteras. Today, Hatteras Yachts is one of the most iconic sportfish and motor yacht builders in the world, with models from 45 to over 100 feet. The company’s hulls are built tough using the highest quality fiberglass and vinylester resin for optimal strength, stiffness, and durability.

The first Hatteras splashed in 1959, forever changing what the world could expect from a sportfishing boat. Hatteras Yachts has never built wooden boats but became very dominant in the 60s and 70s by taking that leap in fiberglass. The Hatteras line eventually grew to encompass a line of cruising yachts ranging from 63 to 100 feet in length. The undisputed leader of production convertibles, Hatteras craft, both motor yachts and sportfishing convertibles, are built in the 680,000-square-foot plant on 92 acres along the Neuse River.

Hatteras Yachts celebrated 40 years of building the Finest Cruising and Sportfishing Yachts In The World by Roy Attaway. The company’s legacy and pride in craftsmanship continue to be celebrated today.
