📹 What Is A Tapeworm? 😨
📹 How Fear of Holes was invented
… and sits in the corner just then the door opens and she sees a bald man covered with creepy holes all over his face because.
Please do note though, it is extremely unlikely for a tape worm to get that big or live that long. Most of you would be in excruciating pain and/or would’ve been brought into the hospital for malnutrition long before it got to that stage. These things only typically happen in the third world where medical care is inaccessible or limited.
What I find more interesting is that because they absorb nutrients from the intestines, tapeworms have helped people lose weight. So much so that tapeworm eggs were even sold as a weight loss medication. Now of course, given their lifespan and how much they can take, they do pose some risks to your health which is why they don’t get used anymore. But I still find it kind of cool.
When I was around 10 (2010 year) years old, a tapeworm egg made its way into my brain. I wasn’t aware of it until I fainted and was rushed to the hospital. Thanks to the father of a friend who took me there, I received timely medical attention; otherwise, I might not have survived. The doctor conducted an examination and discovered the egg in its early stages in my brain. He prescribed medication, which I took for about 2-3 years, and finally it worked, the egg disappeared. However, I still experienced side effects from the medication, such as anxiety and stomach issue till now.
It’s actually slightly different. Taeniosis (disease caused by the mature tapeworm in the intestine) is caused by ingesting the larvae in the meat, not the eggs. The eggs, when ingested, will hatch into a stage called oncosphere which will break through the intestine wall and into the bloodstream. It will then latch onto some tissue it encounters and create a cysticercus. And yes, the susceptible organs include the brain and eyeballs. This creates a disease called cysticercosis which is much much more dangerous than taeniosis. In such case the huuman becomes an accidental intermediate host of the tapeworm.
Tapeworms are long, flat worms that live in the intestines of animals, including humans. They can grow to be several feet long and are made up of segments. These parasites can cause health problems, so it is important to seek medical treatment if you suspect you have been infected. Preventing tapeworm infections can be done by practicing good hygiene and avoiding undercooked meat.
Tapeworms were one of my biggest fears during my childhood when I first learnt about them. The fact that Not only they stay inside you for YEARS, but they can actually block your food in the intestine. So now it’ll be difficult for you to take a shit. They do that AND constantly grow inside of you. That is definitely a lot more painful than you think if not treated immediately. So yeah, try to eat clean food and try to avoid flies to sit on the food because flies are the major “transporter” of tapeworm and its eggs.
I’m a medical student and what he said is surprisingly accurate, especially in SEA regions where raw fermented meat is quite a common dish The article he shown is ONE of many types of tapeworm-based on the model, I believe this one is called “Taenia solium” which live inside infected pigs. Despite the disgustingness, these infected one can be easily recognized by the white dots on the meat.
