Has Anyone Installed A Snorkel In A Silverado?

Many Silverado owners have installed snorkels on their trucks to improve off-road performance. The process is not difficult but requires modification to the truck’s body. A snorkel kit typically includes the snorkel itself and a template to help cut the necessary hole in the Silverados body. In this video, a DIY installation of a snorkel designed for a Toyota Landcruiser on a 2011 Chevy 2500hd truck was successful.

Snorkels are now mostly fitted to allow the crossing of rivers without causing damage to the engine. The Airflow snorkel relocates the engine’s air intake entry from the relatively low and vulnerable position under the hood to a much higher and safer location where a constant source of cool, clean, dry air is available. The Chevrolet Silverado Snorkel Systems are manufactured to the highest standards in durable, UV stable, cross-linked polyethylene material and deliver a continuous and cooler supply of air.

The Radius Fabrications Snorkel for Chevy Silverado 1500 is crafted with precision from 5 stainless steel and available in a flawless polished or satin black powder-coated finish. This product has been made to accommodate the unique body shape of the Silverado and enter through the Guard following the body lines with a sleek finish.

Snorkels have been in use for a long time on vehicles and craft, with their history dating back to World War 1. They are used to water proof a vehicle for deep water, with numerous vent lines (diffs, tranny) and all the electronics. Some people have asked about companies that make snorkels for full-size Chevys, but ARB still does not currently do so.

A truck snorkel kit relocates the engine’s air intake point from the relatively low and vulnerable position under the hood to a much higher and safer location. The Airbox, constructed from CNC cut aluminum, is also included in the package.
