The land of Greece is one infused with ancient mythology and if you like archeology, history, art, and philosophy then a trip to this fascinating country is not to be missed. Greece is made up of a series of idyllic islands that are surrounded by jet blue seas and covered in dainty white buildings, and you will also find crumbling ruins, engaging museums, and pretty coastal towns aplenty.
When I traveled through Greece I found that Santorini was the most overrated destination. The island is perfect for instagram pictures however it’s overrun with tourist. Some people may not mind this but when you visit smaller islands you realise that Santorini doesn’t have the relaxed vibe that is created by the Greek locals. The entire island is devoted to tourism which takes away from the cultural experience in my opinion. I honestly felt although the Greek people had given away their island for tourist. Also issues of pollution can be seen on the island as tourism creates massive piles of garbage. I was surprised that islands such as Rhodes or Kefalonia were not on the list. Also smaller islands like Hydra and Simi are a hundred times more authentic and enjoyable than Santorini. Glad I experienced Santorini but I do think it’s overrated. Just my opinion.

There is no top 10,without Kefalonia (Cephalonia) and Kerkyra (Corfu). However,good try. It could also be Milos (Aphrodite’s island,with amazing beaches,catacombs etc) or Samos(birthplace of many famous ancient Greeks,Pythagoreio and Heraion towns etc). Mykonos,is a just a typical Greek island,but has nothing to give,except luxurious hotels and nightlife.

Fun fact, At the ancient world, boats had to travel not too far from the coast, so Greece saw pretty much all the traffic in the sea. And the temple of Poseidon was build to say to that traffic passing by, “you see our skill ? Dare to touch us and we’ll come to ruin you with the wrath of Poseidon himself” because, yeah the acropolis intimidated you the same way, but few people saw it in comparison to people. Besides the Meteora and the cities, all of these are purely enjoyable during the summer. Why don’t you mention, Ioannena, Zagorochoria and the Vikos Canyon, The affordable ski resorts of Parnasos, Kalavrita, Vassilitsa and Kaimaktchalan (probably butchered the spelling of this one), Pella, Preveza, Kalpaki, Souli. All of these in the article are beautiful places sure, but they are also the most visited places in Greece already, our country is just full of hidden jems. Also by just saying “the Peloponesse” is just a huge generalization.
