In addition to a work permit, a visitor visa may be required to enter Canada. If you are working temporarily in British Columbia, your spouse or common-law partner and dependents may be eligible to apply for a study or work permit. Under the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP), candidates may qualify under one of the following streams: Skills Immigration, Health Care Professional, and Express Entry British Columbia Stream.
To find a job in British Columbia, candidates can visit job sites like Indeed Canada or Canada’s Job Bank, meet minimum language requirements, and have a job offer or current job, except for international post-graduates. The BC Skilled Worker stream does not require an Express Entry profile, but candidates who meet eligibility criteria for this stream and a valid work permit and Social Insurance Number (SIN) will need to work in British Columbia.
Candidates must still meet the basic requirements of an applicable British Columbia immigration category or stream, including a minimum one-year job offer from a Canadian employer. To hire or recruit a foreign worker in B.C., candidates must register or be licensed with the provincial government. However, to live and work for any employer in Canada as a foreign national, candidates must have a Temporary Work Visa—a Temporary Resident Visa and a Social Insurance Number. A working permit can be quickly provided within approximately 6 months, and after 12 months in Canada, they will apply for their Canadian Permanent Resident (PR) Visa.
If you are in Canada on a tourist visa, Immigration Canada states that you cannot apply from within Canada for a work permit. You must be aware of the requirements and apply for a work permit before entering Canada.

There is a question on PNP online application: “Do you have an active application for provincial nomination or permanent residence under any other federal or provincial program?” What should be the answer to this question as I have an express entry profile already submitted which was a requirement of BC PNP.
I recently accepted full-time permanent employment in British Columbia as Environment Analyst. In the past 6 years, I have been living in Saskatchewan, working on my PhD in Aquatic Ecology at the University of Saskatchewan. I graduated in March 2020 and now with the employment opportunity, I would like to apply for PR ASAP. Currently, I hold an open work permit (PGWP). I am writing to ask what is the fastest way that I could apply for PR via British Columbia Nominee Program based on my criteria. I am confused about how these programs work. Do I still need LMIA? In 2017, in the hope of obtaining PR and taking advantage of high language scores, I submitted my master’s degree for credential evaluation to WES ($220) and took the CELPIP English language test ($280). I was confident that I would obtain a high score from my language test and that will increase my points for my PR application, however, the results were shocking. Although I obtained the maximum possible scores from the Reading and Listening modules, the results of the Writing and Speaking modules indicated that my English skills have gotten worse since my 2010 IELTS Academic test and after living in Canada for 3 years. That being said, is it possible to submit the application for any of the programs that I am eligible for and take a new language test (if needed) afterward? Thanks
Hi sir good day. Question for International Graduate (Skills Immigration or EEBC), should the job offer be related to the program you took during post-secondary studies in Canada, or it can be not related, as long as the job offer falls under NOC 0, A, B and wage offer is inline with BC wage rate(for example, completed technician diploma but job offer is related to welding or butchery). Thanks
I would like to inquire that after applying to the BC PNP online portal for the EEBC skilled worker nomination program, where, when and which stage of the application my employer will submit the documents from his side i.e. employer requirements. Either he will submit the employer documents from his side or I have to collect those documents from the employer and submit them on his behalf? Please confirm.
Hi I need some guidance and clarity on the process of education verification:- I have done 3 years graduation from Delhi University and 1 years PGDM (Executive)from IMT Ghaziabad. At the same time I am planning to submit my papers with IQAS or ICAS because I believe one of them will recognize my education as two or more degree & diploma. Pls correct or share your views on the same so that I can go the right track. My IELTS score is R L(8.5) W (6.5) S(8.5) it’s CLB 8 I am planning to give ielts to get 7 in W Secondly, regarding the BCPNP can I just login to BCPNP and submit by profile instead of going through to pool, is it possible ?
