- Tips to avoid higher charges. We recommend that you turn off roaming while the ship is docked in a U.S. port. Otherwise, your phone may pick up the ship’s network and you’ll be charged cruise ship roaming charges for any usage. Once you’re out to sea, you can then turn roaming back on and pay the respective usage for data, text, and voice.
- Calls placed over Wi-Fi to non-U.S. numbers are subject to the cruise ship rate.
- Calls placed while the cruise ship is at port can still connect the ship’s network and are subject to the cruise ship rates.
- Cruise ships are not covered by international data passes.

The service also provides showtimes, daily activities, menus and the ability to book paid activities without needing to go to the front desk.
So, let’s say you’re interested in staying connected while aboard ship. If you’re not able to wait for ports of call (or don’t have international data on your phone), it might be worthwhile to pay for a Wi-Fi package.

Pay attention to the detail and not the glamor – This is meant to push the Magenta plan which is way too expensive in 2023 for most users. Also, why are cruise packages still missing from T-Mobile? The monopoly of ships over WiFi is leading to consumers being taken advantage off and being forced to pay as high as $20 per device per day on-board. This monopoly needs to be defeated by alternatives such as affordable cruise packages from cell phone companies, mobile satellite WiFi etc. It is a shame not a lot of consumers are speaking up!
