As a scooter commuter, although I agree that range is important, most commuters don’t need 40+ mile range. 9 times out of 10, a scooter commuter is not trying to replace a car, but a bike or walk. Scooters are first mile/last mile solutions for transit riders, or for urban commuters that live near work. Those last 1 out of 10, sure, look for huge mileage, but most of us know how to recharge every night for our daily single-digit miles round trip, even though I could ride a few days without recharging, because it’s better for the batteries.

I’ll add one more thing to consider too, make sure you don’t get one that’s underpowered for your size. I made that mistake with my first scooter, a 500 watt single motor scooter. It turns out it was fine in the flat, but it was not able to get my 235 lbs up the local hills. If you’re a bigger guy and want to be able to make it up a hill then plan on getting a dual motor scooter with a 20 AH or more battery unless you want to buy it twice like I did.

The Swagger 5 is not a bad commute to/from the bus depot but is little more than that, plus, its suspension is basically your T12, L1 & L2 spinal discs. When Im riding my scooter I advised everyone to stop at stop sign as if you was driving a car. When I get ready to stop, I release my hand off of the throddle and let it slow down by itself. I also look behind once in a while to see if a car behind me. If I see that the road is heavy traffic I just ride on the sidewalk. When I come up to a pile of leaves I slow down and go around it if I can. If I come up some where that I can’t see coming around a curve, I ring my bell to let them know that Im coming up.
While scooters are fun, I think it’s important for people that are buying them to know that they’re inherently much more dangerous than electric bicycles due to the smaller wheels, and longer steering column. Hitting a bump, crack, curb, pothole, etc. at speed is way more disastrous on a scooter vs a bike with larger wheels. The longer steering column also makes the steering much more “twitchy” and less stable than most bikes.
I have a rod and pins in my left leg from an accident 35 years ago. As I recall full recovery took about a year. The human body is an incredible thing. At 69 years old and in pretty good shape. My “bionic” leg is stronger than my “good” leg. I believe that your wife will make full recovery.! I have been looking at a variety of electric vehicles. Thanks for your insight.
My commute is 6 miles one way, with the ability to charge after I get to my destination. My commute also involves one section where there is no bike lane or enough room to the side. I have to take the lane and keep up with traffic, which is 25-30MPH. I NEED power, NOT range. So it’s not if you are a commuter you need range. It depends on your commute, which is highly personalized to YOU.

I agree about having a decent helmet and the risk of riding on small wheels. Four months ago, I was borrowing an upright scooter with 9-inch wheels. Riding at maybe 20 km/h, I cut across a lawn and onto pavement. The grass hid the edge of the pavement so I didn’t see that it was raised. I went head-over-handlebars and rolled the fall, hitting my knee, shoulder, chin and helmet on the pavement. It was very painful and the helmet cracked but I was not seriously injured. I hate to think what would have happened if I was going faster. I intend to get a helmet with chin protection. I now have my own electric scooter and I feel much safer. It is a seated scooter with 14-inch wheels. The seated position lowers my centre of mass. I tried riding my scooter over the same raised edge that caused my fall and my scooter mounted it easily.
Thanks my man, I could feel you know what you’re talking about. I ride similar sccoter (2000W, 60 kmph max speed). I know it could be dangerous and had a taste of it meself. Now I’m thinking I need longer range, as when I ride at max speed for like 5 mins straight, the battery drops significantly. Also a better suspension (not just big springs, but like oil suspension) is a thing to consider. Roads are far prom perfect simetime and for 10 inch wheels road holes and level changes can be a problem. A suspension that can really absorb the shock, without pushing pack on your afterwards, can be a great help for stability and comfort of riding. Thank you for yyour review! I don’t recommend the aftermarket warranties. I’ve heard horror stories with them and I had my own bad experience with one (with a car not a scooter). Hopefully you found a good one. A helmet is always recommended for safety. When you fall off, the first thing to hit the ground is usually your head. My wife wanted to try my scooter (my first scooter-hurdle motorgear). It automatically goes into cruise control after 5 seconds of holding the throttle which she didn’t expect, got nervous and fell off. A few bumps and bruises but that led me to buy better models and like hobart said-name brands matter. Now we have nanrobot where we can turn off cruise control.
I made a couple of these mistakes when I got my first electric scooter (for 200) and when it broke the only reason I didn’t get hurt was quick reflexes and I was able to get it replaced for free due to the place I got it from the brand (hover-1) has no support and doesn’t care. I broke the second one and after a while I jumped ship to NIU who has a 2 year warranty and sells replacement parts and such
After getting my razor e200, i found it disappointing that it was advertised as folding but it’s not. It lasts as long as it is ad fir, 20 min/10miles on each charge, then it takes a 12hrs to charge. It’s an acid,lead battery. I found it very heavy, i had the 300 five yrs ago, and forget how heavy it is. It takes two hands, arms, since i had shoulder surgery my husband had to left it. It’s fun, easy to ride, but it takes PRACTICE TO handle the throttle. After That, i for my husband the razor Prime e3, it’s lighter, folding, ready on the train and lift, has an iron,lithium battery. Charges in six hrs. Has head and back lights. Mine has neither but i just smacked em on the handle bars. The prime was $440, will worth it. If you can, go the better grade, as much investment as you can. This is our only transportation, we had cars until 9 yrs ago, can’t afford it anymore. For all this time, we have been walking, bussing, or kick scooters/ his bike, now his hip won’t let him ride the bike. So As our only transportation that’s made us independent once more! All razors. Those are good points, just a correction, nanrobot also deals in rebranding scooter from China, not saying it is a bad thing, I wanted a roadrunner but since I’m not in the US I biught the exact same scooter from kukirin, that sell outside of the US. And both brand used an OEM where they put their brand on the scooter.
I was going 30+ and something happened to the front wheel idk if I pressed the front brake by accident or what. The front wheel just skid and I fell, tumbling. I cracked a piece of my wrist and had scrapes that’s all, thank god. PTSD? Yeah….I’m scared to go 40mph now, without gear ofc! With gear I’m still shaky cause I can’t believe those small ass wheel are allowing ppl to go up to 70mph that’s ridiculous. A small bump and your flying. I hope that the wife is really okay and recovering excellently, because I never thought something like that could happen to a rider. Extremely overjoyed that she wasn’t riding alone but with a man like you. I’d been interested into a motorcycle safety driver course that makes riders more aware of safety in the maneuvering for those and most situations while riding. I had witnessed one friend come home with a broken jaw from an avoidable incident once. My concern has not diminished one drop since.
Say no more… I made my decision NOT to purchase a nanrobot or any other scooter when I saw you removing all the hand pads, knee pads, shin pads, helmet, and all the other safety gear. It’s just not worth all the expense and dangers involved. My purpose was to scooter on the sidewalk to the grocery store… only because when I walk there, it’s uphill all the way back home… when the cart is full. My non-motorized pull cart becomes a push cart on the way back from the grocery store and I’ve come dangerously close to having a heart attack at the last leg of the trip, although the walk is only about 6 miles total, there and back. It’s because of the very steep hill on the last leg of the trip back home that I thought perhaps an electric scooter might make my grocery shopping a bit easier. But I can see now that it would only make problems worse since I’d probably have to pull the grocery cart AND the scooter after it gives out on the hill.
hi nice article. i currently have an lectric xp 3.0 i use for commuting to work and around town. 20-30 miles/day. in what i would call very rural arkansas. i can ride on most roads just fine at 20-32mph. due to circumstances (tornado caused tree to fall on bike and bent frame not being covered under warranty) i am looking at scooters as a possible upgrade path. i am between either a Kaabo Wolf King GT or a OBARTER X7. same basic specs, range and price. coming from an ebike is there any major differences i should be aware of?

I don’t know anyone replacing cars but do know people who can’t afford or want cars. To want to go fast on these on the Rd with cars is stupid, they are great for commuting to and from work, or to just go out for the day. I do think here in the UK we should make us insure them, for our safety, they arnt allowed on the rds but they are everywhere.

I bought & electric scooter like a mini Vespa. Before they was seen. Normally.. only a few hundred dollars. Bought 2 wanted the first was red second I asked for blue got another red one. Going to call one thing one and thing 2. One red & one blue 12″ tires though. And 25 to 30 miles and hour. Rode them to work every day for 2 years only a mile and plugged it in.😂 took it through McDonald’s drive through. First Ever to do that.
Is my headlight and front light connected together? I had to but another mud cover to go over the tire. My scooter is gray,but to closes I could get was a black. The tell light doesn’t fit in It’s to big andthe wire that connects to the head light hit the mud cover making noise that’s very distracted. So do I have to get a whole new scooter. I can’t find no where around here that can repair it.
1. Buy a identifiable brand name. If it’s just “Electric Scooter” you’re probably getting screwed. 2. If you’re being cheap, IE under 500, be super suspicious. Most budget scooters are low quality clones that will break within a month or two. 3. Range really is that important. 4. Suspension isn’t as important as you might think – learning to ride the scooter properly is more important for avoiding injury. But air tire + no suspension or solid tire + yes suspension are fine. 5. Look up review articles and only believe ones that mention negatives. Every scooter under 800 is gonna have some negatives.
Re solid tyres on cheaper ones: Why would you want air tyres on something like this where parts are likely to be an issue even on better brands as they change specs all the time and these days everything you buy no one ever has any parts. Im guessing tyres and tubes are not standardised across the many brands and models of e scooter out there? If you get one with air filled tyres and presumably a tube inside, where are you going to be able to get new tyres and or tube if you get a puncture in a place which cannot be repaired? For me, i think solid tyres would be better with these sorts of things, given the models and everything seems to change constantly. I wouldn’t want to be trying to find replacement tubes or tyres for one if i ran over a nail or something which buggered by tyre and tube like has happened to be in cars and trailers… And even if tubeless tyres, if thats the same as with tubeless tyres on cars, they often get punctures where you take them to get it fixed and get told you now need a tube because the puncture was in a place where they cant repair the tyre to be airtight at pressure (had that happen more than once with cars – with cars obviously you just have to buy a new tube, or sometimes tube and tyre, but they are easily available. I really don’t think id want to be trying to find a new tyre or tube for an e scooter, just given how many different brands and styles and sizes there are and the fact that at least where I live, I don’t think there would be many suppliers of parts unless the tyres and tubes are generic to most brands and models?

Wanted one for commuting to work so 30 miles / 50km range MINIMUM for round trip… and then since they false rate them and everyone says you only get half of what the rating suggests, that means i’d need 60 miles/ 100km range to cover the real world output. Speed wise, i’m ok with about 20-25mph if its consistant. would need to have some suspension or something to ease the ride on our broken roads, paths and pavements…. And yes, I have bad luck so parts will need replacing… Which seems like a challenge just to get, before you start looking at how to to fit it Also, i dont believe that these things are worth over a thousand dollars US, let alone that in Pounds Sterling for the UK. better off just getting a cheap/ second hand motorcycle at that point. so after looking around for a good 12 months, I’ve found NOTHING that suits me, and MANY dodgey or scammy looking sellers…. So many cookie cutters. I know the feeling. Settled on an emove crusier and a Ninebot max F40, ($499 on prime day). The price for features was the clincher for both. Then came range and speed.commute to work a few times a month. With it being 113 degrees heat here, I will be commuting towards fall with cooler temps. Batteries/controllers may burn up. The planet 🌎 is doomed. The crusier covered all bases for this 56 yrs young old lady.
Bought a Yume x7 and both controllers died within 30miles . A real pos . Not paying $400can for the cheap square wave controllers . Still sitting broken down . I bought a Emove Cruiser S and it is a way better scooter . Great range and does 30+ mph . Sine wave controller and regen brakes. Do not fall for the 60 mph junk scooters unless by a brand name, cheap ali or amazon scooters with no support really suck .

When I was 12 years old riding down a steep hill on my 3-speed Schwinn bicycle at about 20+ MPH I was sight seeing & did not notice my neighbor had stopped at a branch in the road. I plowed into him at full speed with no protective gear = luckily a nicely bruised knee & some noticeable bicycle damage. That was before anyone even considered ‘protective gear’ . . . . what, are you a sissy ? ? ?

I love that you can control the age content, block certain apps and articles, and free storage space with apps that haven’t been used in a while. This tablet has assisted my son’s learning in so many ways. We love it!
I really didn’t mean that I will use e scooter like I’m using mine . Almost all are riding and I’m radius 5-8km so I gone with full susp but smoler and EU 25 km/h but Vsett8 goes litle faster and its beag diference riding 25 or 35km/h and I have made olmost 1500km in 8month of using it. And for 1,000€ its super good not one biger problem .
The first tip you should know before buying your first scooter is DON’T BUY ONE. These things are money pits. If you get something as simple as a flat tire, good luck. Either you have to find someone that services that scooter, with models changing constantly and so quickly, the part you need will be out of rotation. You will have to either order it from China or just don’t get it. Something as simple as a tire tube, you think you got the right size right? But you got the wrong shaped valve. You’d think by now scooters would have universal tires. Ive just tried 3 different tires on my Inokim Super light, but each one had the wrong shaped valve. I’ve owned 8 scooters, none of them made it past a year before something went wrong, and had to jump hurdles with scooter mechanics. If you want to tear your hair out and waste thousands of dollars, buy an escooter. Could have bought several cars with the money I’ve spent on these things
3rd party warranties are completely worthless. They won’t honor it or the terms are so bad that you are better off just fixing it yourself with your own parts. They are as worthless as the extended warranties Best Buy used to sell. If you think for one minute that your $89 warranty is going to get you a new scooter should the one you bought break, you have another thing coming.
You won’t get anywhere near 75% of the stated range if you are using “full performance” More like 25-35% of the stated range at “full performance” Like if the scooter has a top speed of 30mp and you go 30mph, you’re getting 25-35% of the range. Another thing is the battery is where they cheap out. You will never get 500 charge cycles out of these cheap scooters.
