Shipboard medical centers on cruise ships are equipped with a variety of equipment, including defibrillators, cardiac monitors, external cardiac pacing capability, ventilators, oxygen tanks, x-ray machines, and lab equipment. X-rays on cruise ships usually cost between 100-200 (£80-£160), with a series starting at 105 (£85). Some ships have an intensive care unit area, while others have sophisticated medical facilities with lifesaving equipment like X-ray machines, cardiac monitors, defibrillators, and more.
However, ships often lack the necessary equipment or skilled personnel to read films well. In addition to standard lifesaving equipment, medical centers carry some of the latest in medical technology, including thrombolytic. Carnival Cruise Line is adding 3D x-ray security scanning at nine of its North American cruise ports, bringing the latest technology for travel and facility security to the cruise industry.
All carry-on luggage goes through an airport-style scanner, all checked luggage is X-rayed, and all persons must pass through the metal detector. Medical facilities on shipboard also carry some of the latest in medical technology, such as dual-energy x-ray machines that produce a color image of Organic and Inorganic materials on the screen.
Carnival Cruise Line plans to upgrade to digital x-ray equipment for several of its ocean liners. Every bag goes through an x-ray machine before it goes on board, and bags with suspicious items are tagged and a physical hand check is done. Onboard medical teams work closely with shoreside teams to ensure the safety and efficiency of the cruise industry.
