Do Cruise Ships Have Curfews?

Cruise lines often do not publish official curfews, but they rely on parents to exercise good judgement. Most cruise lines have a curfew in place for passengers, especially for younger travelers, to ensure safety and maintain a peaceful and orderly environment onboard. Breaking curfews may result in fines.

When embarking on a cruise, passengers must be checked in and on board by the stated time, and when stopped in a port, they will be told a time when they can leave. Carnival Cruise Line has implemented a youth curfew for all its vessels, requiring guests aged 17 and under to explore ships after 1 a.m. without adult supervision. Royal Caribbean International has a curfew of 1:00 A.M. for cruisers ages 17 and under, with security staff onboard enforcing this curfew by asking kids to return to their staterooms and checking SeaPasses in public areas.

There is generally no curfew for adults on most cruise lines, but some do have a curfew for kids unless they are with their parents. The current curfew is 1 am for all passengers 17 years and older. Royal Caribbean may revise its kids curfew policy due to increasing complaints from adult guests about disruptive children.

Curfews for minors are 1 am, and the curfew applies to travelers 17 years of age and younger, going into effect immediately across the entire fleet. Teenagers must proceed to their staterooms unless accompanied by their parent guardian.

How strict is the Royal Caribbean curfew?

Royal Caribbean will revisit curfews for kids. For cruisers ages 17 and under, Royal Caribbean has a curfew of 1:00 A.M.

Why do cruise ships have curfews?

Occasionally, the issue of rambunctious, unsupervised minors running about after hours becomes an issue, particularly with more mature cruisers who are looking to get some shut-eye in before their next day onboard, and adult cruisers looking to enjoy their evenings without disruption in areas that would otherwise be inappropriate, like casinos, bars, and adult-only comedy clubs.

To assuage some of these concerns, young cruise passengers will need to be aware of curfews on some cruise lines that restrict minors (generally, this means anyone age 17 and younger) from being in public areas without an adult past a designated time usually, well after Midnight..

Let’s take a look at which cruise lines have such curfews, and what they mean for minors and their families.
