Can You Take Wine On Royal Caribbean Cruise?

Royal Caribbean cruises allow guests of drinking age to bring one 750ml bottle of wine or champagne for each individual sailing. Additional bottles will be stored by the ship and delivered to the stateroom on the first day of each new voyage. Passengers can bring two bottles of wine or champagne (750ml each) per cabin during embarkation only, if spirits or beer are found.

From March 3, 2023, passengers can only bring one 750ml bottle of wine or champagne per adult of drinking age per sailing. This is a significant reduction from the previous policy. However, there are still plenty of drinks available on Royal Caribbean cruises, and savvy cruisers can check the menus to see the exact cost.

Discounted alcohol is not allowed at embarkation, and alcohol purchased in port or an onboard shop will be stored until the end of the cruise. On embarkation day, guests may bring one sealed 750ml bottle of wine or champagne, but boxed wine and other containers are prohibited. Duty-free items purchased onboard can be taken to the room and enjoyed during vacation, but duty-free alcohol and cigarettes will be confiscated.

Do cruise ships check your bags for alcohol?

Body Scanners. While cruise ships don’t typically have the scanning technology you’ll find at airports, you’ll still have your luggage scanned and need to walk through an X-ray machine.

This machine can detect any liquids you may be carrying on your person, meaning you can’t hide any small bottles of alcohol in your pockets!

Room Inspections. Even if you somehow get past the cruise ship scanner with your booze, there’s still a chance of getting caught sneaking alcohol. Any cruise line can inspect any cruise passenger’s room for any reason. You’ll find this in your cruise contract, where you can also read the alcohol policy.

While most cruise lines aren’t in the habit of doing random searches, there’s still a possibility that they’ll search your cabin, especially if they suspect something is wrong.

Can you bring alcohol on a cruise ship from a port?

All liquor, beer, other forms of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages outside of the exceptions referenced above are strictly prohibited in both carry-on and checked luggage and such items will be confiscated and discarded and no compensation will be provided.

How strict are cruises with alcohol?
