Who pays the highest council rates in NSW?

House owners are subject to higher council rates than those in possession of strata title property, a consequence of the elevated land values. The applicable rate is either the minimum rate or a rate based on the owner’s proportionate interest in the complex. In the case of properties with a strata title, each lot is allocated a specific number of units of entitlement, which serves to determine the portion of the total land value that is attributable to the owner.

In order to reduce the discrepancy between the payments of different property owners, councils establish minimum rate amounts on an annual basis. This ensures that all owners contribute fairly and reasonably to the costs of the services provided.

  • Hi Nicole. I cannot stress how much assistance can be found through your local senior centers. I’m still far off from 60, might not even make said age. Anyhow, I am physically-impaired and have mostly resided in very small towns in an even more rural state. Senior centers have been a godsend with everything from medical equipment, elders that still drive willing to take me to dr. visits, & they also have folks willing to help you fill out paperwork. Take care everyone by learning to advocate for yourself. Remember…if they’re screwing you over, you can be certain they’ve had plenty of practice. Hugs, ~ Covah

  • Thank you so much for this ❤ you have been so helpful ❤ our taxes are behind because of our limited income and I had no idea about these programs, our house is also in need of many repairs because we can’t keep up with it any more, it’s 113 years old and we were not disabled when we bought it. But now neither of us can do repairs let alone even clean any more. We both struggle to do dishes and laundry and by the time we get that done we don’t have the strength for anything else… Thank you so very much ❤

  • Thank you for going over the LIS program. A new change in that program is that everyone who qualify will be considered full benefits status, there will be no more partial benefits. Everyone who is on Medicaid and has Medicare need to ask your state Medicaid office about the QMB program. Its another lifesaver!☺

  • So much great info here to explore for my sister and myself. I’m on SSDI and my sister is a senior in assisted living following a stroke in 2022. So often I get overwhelmed trying to find assistance for her, as I just don’t know where to turn for answers. I feel like I’m drinking from a fire hydrant with all the info flowing from you in this article. I’ll have to rewatch slower and take notes. I’m grateful beyond words for finding you. 🙏🏻 Happy new year!

  • Where is the map that you show @1:08? It would be helpful if you’d include a link in your “more” section, as it is not easy to find. Also, once we click on our state, what do we do? There’s no information on how to receive this benefit. From this article, it sounds like every state has this program. Is that true? Is there a universal application?
