A Guided Hip-Hop Tour Of Compton?

Rapper The Game’s stepfather, Hodari Sababu, offers a guided tour through South Central Los Angeles, featuring an original score by Co La. The tour, which began with music bumping in the van, provides a unique experience through the colorful streets of South Central Los Angeles, passing famous movie locations and landmarks. The tour takes viewers and a car full of Australian tourists through iconic neighborhoods like South Central, Compton, Watts, Baldwin Hills, and Crenshaw, where the beats of hip hop can be heard.

The Hood Life Tour is a modern black history, music, and culture tour of LA, starting with music bumping in the van. Big Mike serves as the tour guide, but he is more like a friend showing the audience around the city he’s grown up in. The tour offers a taste of LA’s hip hop culture in iconic neighborhoods like South Central, Compton, Watts, Baldwin Hills, and Crenshaw.

Pitchfork.tv presents a new short documentary called “Hood Life: A Hip Hop Guided Tour of Compton”, following Hodari Sababu as he gives a history lesson about the city. The tour is a unique and immersive experience for hip-hop fans, offering a unique perspective on the city’s vibrant culture and iconic neighborhoods.

  • Instagram – AdamTheWooATW There were a couple occasions where I decided not to edit a few words out simply because in this case it would have changed the mood in the experience . Wanted to give the vibe of the day from a tourist perspective . We departed at 11am and returned at 3:40pm and the cost was $75 .

  • It’s true Expressway I-10 will run from Florida to California. I remember when my son first moved down to Fl. and him and his wife were having their 2nd baby …..my mother and I were trying to find the hospital. We got on expressway I -10 at first . We were lost . LOL!! We just followed the hospital signs that helped us get to the hospital where my grandson was born and we got there just in time . My son told me if we had kept going We’d ended up in California. LOL!! That’s how I found out that that expressway would go all the way to California. Thanks Adam the Woo for sharing your article .

  • Went on this tour in January, what an amazing insight to how the people of la live ! Also what a great guy think his name was steve, made us feel safe in places we wouldn’t have felt otherwise . Something you need to see with you’re own eyes, if you’re in La take this tour. Respect from England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

  • Hello: Your best article in a while. I’m burnt out on Disney. This made me think of you standing behind the haunted house, you said I think I see someone looking at me. You and I kept looking at that window in the article, I got scared and you got scared. You started running to the ford van. I would take that van tour if in La., I dough I will ever be in La. I am hoping you have more articles of this since it was over 3 hour trip. Rock on dude.

  • Dang, Adam, you went to where I was born & raised: Compton, CA (the east side). That’s pretty dope how that guy gives tours & doesn’t sugarcoat anything. I’m 46 years old & the tour guide is right about the Compton Swap Meet; the 80’s were pretty bad in general in Compton. Too bad the tour guide didn’t make a pit stop at Louis Burgers. That’s the best chili in town.

  • Very Interesting Adam, I was born and raised in Orange Co and only traveled to LA 2 or 3 times. I did marry a man that worked for Pep Boys and he traveled to Compton area daily for many years. He was a Regional manager there. This was in the 70’s and 80’s. Around that time, there were people breaking out car windows at stop lights and grabbing purses. The gentleman that does these tours certainly knows the area. After all he has been through I wish him the best. Thank you for taking us along with you!

  • Now this is some place I have always wanted to see, and it ‘s not as rough as the movies make it to be. In case you wanted to know a little more, the driver never mentioned anything about Paul Rodriguez. He went to Compton High School and grew up somewhere in the area too. Enjoyed this step out of a comfort zone type vlog very much! :)~

  • Very interesting.. and good to meet the driver.. someone who lived through it all and is doing well today.👍👍 My Compton story is: In an OC high school band we were sent into Compton with the football team and were told we might get some eggs or tomatoes thrown at us if they didn’t want our presence.. As we drove away in the school buses we were hit with glass bottles and bricks. I ducked below the glass windows.. others were not too badly injured. Thankfully no guns used.

  • Wow thank you John that was one of yourself most amazing episodes I’ve been perusal nearly nonstop for almost 2 weeks your I’m slowly catching up I liked your episode where you go to BTF mall and meet fans that was great refreshing af stay strong your efforts will get you a show on the travel website because you have a natural camera personality I’ll patronize you in a good way soon need my first J Dub T-shirt to. Stay blessed.

  • The El Rancho Market at 2:45 is where the charming Sara Bareilles article “Gonna Get Over You” was shot. It was directed by actor Jonah Hill. In my experience people from the east coast and mid-west of the USA are often surprised how much nicer the houses in these LA ‘hoods are compared to working-class houses in other parts of the country.

  • The observatory I think could be the one in Griffith Park as I’ve seen in movies or tv shows in past plus in Carson City is where the Fire Department of Ststoon 51 from tv series “Emergency!” Which is currently Ststion 127 as a working fire dept. which I still want to see also there is a Fire Museum which forget the name but have fire trucks including the latest pumper & squad from the series as well as memobilla which seen in articles only.

  • FANTASTIC vlog Adam, absolutely loved it, right up my street, watched every single one of your vlogs, yet this time I knew some of the places due to the love I have for Hip Hop and all the films mentioned! And nearly 5hrs of touring the hood for only $75 ! bargain. If you were recording the full 5hrs would love you to share that! The driver was fab. loved it LOVED IT !!!
