The Best 5 Tokyo
So easy to find 5 fabulous things to do in Tokyo. What a city to discovery for a day, a weekend or a whole week. Our Best 5 are…
1. Temples and Shrines
The cultural and atmosphere in the Tokyo temples is awe enspiring. We visited the Buddhist temple, Sensō-ji in Asakusa. This is Tokyo’s oldest temple and one of the most significant. The entrance is under an enormous red lantern and then a sea of shops selling trinkets to offer the Buddhist gods. We donated a small amount to have a shake of the wishing box which was then added to all the worshippers wishes. Our kids were respectful and inspired by the serene vibe happening at this shrine.

2. Mountain and City Views
We ventured up Tokyo Tower at night to see the amazing view of all the lights over Tokyo an amazing view and was worth the ticket price. The other viewing platform we went to was the Metropolitan Government Building. A short walk from Shinjuku Station is the tallest building in Tokyo and the second tallest structure to Tokyo Skytree. This viewing platform is FREE!!! Spend as long as you wish viewing all of Tokyo and on a clear day all the way to Mt Fuji.

3.Tsukiji Fish Market
A senses overload and a ‘Eww look at that’ overload. Loved the Fish Markets and how vibrant and real they are. Such a local experience that our family really enjoyed. So many unusual and bizarre sightings and the surrounding sushi bars YUM. This is the biggest wholesale seafood market in the world.

4. Eating
I think I would visit Tokyo just for the food. Our days were often planned around eating. Where? What? and How much can we order? No meal disappointed and every price was reasonable and filling. Many places were literally whole in the wall establishments that seated around 10 people. So authentic.

5. Vibes in Harajuku, Shibuya and Shinjuku
People watching in Tokyo is a MUST. As is using the Crazy Crossing in Shibuya Downtown and the crazy fashions in Harajuku and the busyness of Shinjuku

Wow, what an amazing journey for you and your family. I’m not a fan of seafood but it looks like there is a ton of it. I love the building structures, I’m sure it was a trip full of amazing memories!

We fell in love with Tokyo. Couldn’t pick between HK and Tokyo as our favourite
Juries out here but HK is hard to beat! We did a family trip there in 2014 & I was there on a girls trip the year before. Do you happen to do Disney Tokyo?
We did Disneysea. Loved it. Don’t go in school holidays in Japan. We went in school time for Tokyo it was crazy busy but very enjoyable
We will be there early October I had planned for DisneySea as we won’t have time for both. Not sure when school holidays are there but no doubt it will be when we are there lol! Oh well! Adds to the crazy fun!! We have 1 off to high school next year, now that’s crazy! I must be getting old!!
>Tokyo Tower
Not to nitpick, but that photo is actually of the Tokyo Skytree, it’s almost twice as tall as Tokyo Tower.
